Elsie Jooste was born in the Western Transvaal in South Africa. Taking art as a subject in school, she knew that she wanted to be an artist one day. After school she studied art for four years and became an art teacher. In 1984 she had her first solo exhibition. Since then she has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions. She also appeared on a three-day radio show talking about her art. She has won numerous awards.

Since living in the United States she had more time for her art and exhibitions. She was commissioned by a private children’s hospital in California to do a series of paintings.

Her biggest inspiration and love for color come from the impressionist Paul Gauguin.

“Without color there is no love. Without love there is no woman. Without woman there is no music. Without music there is no heart !”

Her colorful paintings have homes all over the world.
